Nexus Mental Health Recovery Services was conceived by Matt Ireland to meet the need for accessible and affordable mental health services in the Penrith & Hawkesbury Regions. Having worked in inner city services such as St Vincent's Hospital and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, Matt decided to come back to the region where he grew up to support the community.
It can be difficult to access quality mental health care that is accessible and affordable. That is one of the primary aims of Nexus Mental Health Recovery Services, to help you access mental health care that is compassionate, of high quality, and isn't restrictively expensive.
Hold on, what's a nurse practitioner?
In short, a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MHNP) is one of the most senior clinical roles in the Australian healthcare system. Think of an MHNP as a specialist who sits right in the "sweet spot" between a doctor and a therapist. We work alongside other professionals like GPs, psychiatrists, and psychologists to make sure you get the support you need.
We are highly experienced Registered Nurses, specialsied in mental health nursing, who have completed a Master’s Degree (but more often than not multiple postgraduate qualifications) and thousands of hours of advanced clinical training to earn the legal authority to practice independently. We're endorsed by the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority (AHPRA) and regulated just like other health professionals. We can access Medicare rebates and PBS for medicines, and we've existed in Australia for over 25 years.
